Hmm, music and RPG styled gameplay, that just doesn’t really seem to go along all that much together. It sounds like comparing apples and oranges but in a more digital perspective. Like with anything else, someone decided to get on their high horse, beat the odds, and here now we have a game that features both of those elements. And thus born is Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.

For those of you gamers that are rhythm fans, this would definitely show some appeal, and if role-playing is your bag too, definitely consider this. Players take control of four Final Fantasy characters, and select a game from the first Final Fantasy all the way up to Final Fantasy XIII. The game features three stages: field, battle, and event. Once the stage is completed, characters will level up. Now with this being on the 3DS, players will be required to tap on the screen in the correct spot, to the beat of the music playing.

Now you’re probably wondering what this sort of thing entails. The opening and ending theme is basically just simple tapping of the music notes. The field music is side-scrolling and the screen moves from right to lift and players are required to tap a note, slide the stylus in a direction or hold the stylus down while following a waving line. The battle music is a mock battle essentially, where players have to tap notes correctly on the screen to do damage. The event music includes from scenes which players, will select and the scene will play on the screen in the background.

In Theatrhythm, there are multiple modes to keep the entertainment going, and the stages themselves are pretty self-explanatory it seems. For rhythm lovers, this definitely holds appeal, and for Final Fantasy fans. If this is your bag, definitely pick this game up and kick ass, take some names in the ways of rhythm.
