Long Awaited…and Now in the Future
After much and much time and seeing it at E3 and wanting it so bad to taste it, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is finally becoming available for all of us gamers to get our grubby little hands on. This is the fifth Ghost Recon series and is the second game to actually receive a “Mature” rating and has been known to have a darker tone than the previous games in the series.
Guns…Lots of Guns
Guns, guns, and more guns! I can never get enough guns and ammo to pick up in a post-apocalyptic world. Of course, what makes some of these guns unique is just the fact that some shoot electricity, fire, corrosive, I mean shit who’s not gonna love that?! I know I would. This world of Pandora was brought to us first in the game Borderlands. Guess what gamers? Borderlands has made a return with its sequel Borderlands 2. That’s right, more gun-toting action by yourself or with friends.
The British Are Coming! No Wait…It’s an Assassin!
So gamers, ready to head back into the Animus? Well too fucking bad if you haven’t had enough rest. Grab your hidden blade as we dive into Ubisoft’s next installment in this epic adventure. We explore more of the mystery of Desmond even though we still barely know anything, but hey, it’s been a great adventure right? So in the greatest tradition, we’ll just continue this magical train ride into history.
Fighting With Some Swords…I’m In!
Fighter games traditionally don’t feature anyone with weapons. Well, let me strike that, the Tekken series did have Yoshimitsu and off-hand I can’t think of traditional characters who really used weapons unless it was their own fist, except for a Mortal Kombat installment or two, but anyway I’m getting off track. The talk today is about a fighter game that actually does feature weapons for all fighters, of course now I am referring to Soul Calibur V.
I mean, really there isn’t much story that we know of for the new Soul Calibur, a general story overall except for a fighter’s determination for honor, or closure in their life, or just something of that nature. But this installment does include 28 fighters for the series, including ten new fighters that are playable. The playable characters are Natsu, Mitsurugui, Maxi, Lizardman, Leixia, Ivy, Kilik, Astaroth, Algol, Cervantes, Edge Master, Hilde, Elysium, Pyrrha, Raphael, Nightmare, Patroklos, Viola, Tira, Siegfried, Siba, Voldo, Yoshimitsu, Z.W.E.I. and Dampierre. In this installment of Soul Calibur, there are two new additions for this game that are quite special for the series. The first being Devil Jin, but the character who has received a lot of hype is none other than Ezio Auditore.
Soul Calibur V is definitely determined to receive some attention from fans from all over, including fans from the previous Soul Caliburs, and Tekken fans and now stretching over to the Assassin’s Creed fans. This game is guaranteed to kick some teeth, clang some steel and kick ass all over.
Raccoon City Revisted…
Never thought you’d return to Raccoon City huh? I think Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City definitely proves that you would most certainly be wrong. In this new installment of the Resident Evil series, characters from past Resident Evil games return to ground zero, where the zombie outbreak first began.
To be honest, this version of Resident Evil just seems really super power and supercharged. First off, there’s notable members of both Umbrella and people trying to stop them along with the virus. For the Umbrella team, there is Ada Wong, HUNK, Nicholai Ginovaef and a new character brought into the Resident Evil franchise called Lone Wolf. For the other side, which I think has been dubbed heroes there is Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Carlos Oliveira.
If that hasn’t got you gamers fucking excited yet, just wait it gets even better. Operation: Raccoon City features a multiplayer mode, which to our knowledge has been the first time done in a series. Players would take on the roles of the characters listed above, and each one, on either side has its perks to bring to the team. One of the most notable modes is a co-op mode where players will try to eliminate the other team, using any means necessary of course. Along with that, there are other modes, one of them being called Team Attack, where players will try and rack up as many kills as they can. Another mode called Biohazard, where players must fight Umbrella to retrieve and escort samples back to the base. There is another mode called Survivors where players must survive before help would arrive to them. Last but not least, there is the Heroes mode, where players must fight and defend iconic characters.
With all that in mind, not only is Umbrella or the Heroes a threat, but so is still the outbreak of the zombies and other creatures from Umbrella’s scientist’s creations. With a new (hopefully) installment of multiplayer, and a new installment in one of our favorite zombie hunting series (which we all love so damn much), I bring you gamers, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. So go out there and not only kick some zombie ass, but take out Umbrella (or the Heroes depending on who you play)!
Kick Some Ass in Hong Kong!
So, the True Crime series makes a triumphant return, but there’s a difference, this one isn’t exactly called True Crime. Yes, the original title got scrapped and formed the new name of Sleeping Dogs.
Once called True Crime: Streets of Hong Kong, Sleeping Dogs makes a violent bust onto video game markets. The core of the gameplay gives players the open world environment that we all just fucking love. It’s played over-the-shoulder in the third person perspective. Now, time for a little bit of story time (yay!). The player takes control of Wei Shen, a Chinese-American police officer as he goes undercover to infiltrate the notorious Sun On Yee Triad crime organization.
Players will have the ability to walk, jump, run, climb over obstacles and swim, as well as commandeer cars, boats, and motorcycles. Also, if you’re looking for a game with guns blazing and all that kind of shit that we generally see with a game like this, you might have to look elsewhere, because this game features more hand-on-hand combat which the player will actually improve on as the game progresses. Players will also have three different experience point systems. They are: Triad XP, Face XP and Police XP. The Triad and Police XP measure Wei’s devotion to either the Triads or the police, while the Face XP is a measure of Wei’s general reputation.
On a final note, while players don’t have the multiplayer option, there are going to be scoreboards for players to rate themselves amongst their friends. So get out there and get your copy of Sleeping Dogs and kick ass in whichever way you choose!
The Dark Knight Has Some Friends in the Lego World!
I’ll admit, when I first saw Lego games coming out and saw what they were like, I honestly said, “Those look like fucking stupid kid games.” WOW was I wrong! I cannot tell you how often I spent an evening intoxicated with a 6 pack of beer and playing the Lego games because they were that fun. We’ve already seen the likes of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and yes the Dark Knight himself, and that’s what this article is covering actually, the Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes game.
According to sources, the game is actually a sequel to the previous Lego Batman, and will feature a large variety of playable DC characters within the Batman realm and also outside of the Batman realm. A new thing that this game will feature that I think is a first within the Lego series (if not whatever) is dialogue, which is AWESOME! It’s better than hearing grunts and whatever sounds the characters make and makes the game’s story a lot better in my opinion.
If that wasn’t all cool enough for you, there’s definitely more. The new Lego Batman will feature an open world concept and feature gameplay similar to its predecessor. As mentioned before players will get to play as characters in the Batman realm, but also other iconic characters from the DC world will be playable including: Batman (naturally), Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Green Lantern, The Flash, Black Canary, Superman, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Cyborg, Aquaman, and of course Wonder Woman. According to rumors, there will be over 70 playable characters (so I’m guessing supervillains as well from the DC comics). The game will feature a 2-player co-op mode, and since the environment is open-world they will split the screens (THANK GOD!!)
Whew, that was definitely a shit ton of information in such a small article. But yes, for those of you Batman fans who liked the Lego games or maybe haven’t tried them, PICK THIS FUCKING GAME UP!! Enough said, if you gamers haven’t played the first one, do it so you know what you’re in for.
Uhh…Which Way Is Up?
It’s safe to say that usually we know which is way up. But in the game of Inversion, which way is up? That’s a really good question for this third-person shooter that relies heavily on gravity manipulation.
So, Inversion. As said, this game is a cover-based third-person shooter that’s being developed by Saber Interactive and being published by Namco Bandai Games. It features destructible environments and gravity manipulation. Now, the destructible environments, hands down, I am a huge fucking fan of that. Why you ask? Simple, it adds to the realism of the game and immerses me just that much a little bit more. Gravity manipulation, this can really either be a unique setting to the game or its biggest downfall depending on how the general audience is going to react to it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely unique and something not brought often into a third-person shooter. But as said, the gravity manipulation can either be cool and used as an advantage or really upset a gamer to throwing their controller at the TV and shout, “What the fuck?! Seriously?!” We’re at least interested in hearing what you guys think about it.
There isn’t too much into the story of Inversion yet, but so far this is what we know. It’s set in the near future, and the peaceful utopia gets fucked by an unknown enemy. Sectors of the city have suffered damage and have entered into zero gravity and have suffered vector changes, which creates this basic clusterfuck. Players will assume the role of Davis Russel, a 28-year-old cop or as Leo Delgado, Davis’s neighbor, who embark on a dangerous journey to find Davis’s missing child.
My thoughts of this game, so far it looks pretty cool, I’m just not sure still how I feel about the whole gravity manipulation thing. The other problem that I have so far, is that this game looks DANGEROUSLY close to Gears of War in its cover system gunfights, actually that’s probably my biggest dispute with Inversion. I mean even if you look at the fucking cover, he has features that resemble Fenix from Gears, he has a big giant machine gun, and when I watched the trailers I felt like I was almost playing Gears of War with just a little bit of a new face. I’m just hoping this game stacks up to being original and having its own game. But, if I have said anything that really convinces you gamers to try this game out or buy it, go for it and let us know how it is!
Ride With Death!
Seriously, how badass is the legends of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse? It’s pretty fucking awesome; I’m not going to deny that. But then again, playing as one of these legendary Horseman just makes everything even more bombastic fantastic.
We got to have our taste as playing one of these Four Horsemen as War in Darksiders, where players took on the role of War, as he was blamed for the apocalypse, stripped of his powers and had to clear his name. Enter Darksiders II where players take on the role of Death, another Horseman of the Apocalypse. Our favorite hack-and-slash style has come back, along with elements of role-playing. The game also features open world regions that can be explored freely on foot or aided by Death’s horse Despair. There are main quests and boss fights along with sides as well that players can complete. Death is not only aided by his horse Despair but by Dust, a raven that guides him to his objectives.
Death’s primary weapons are two scythes, with one wielded in each hand. There are secondary weapons that include typical melee weapons like hammers, axes and maces.
From what it looks like, this game is shaping up to be really badass. I mean, come on, riding as Death, one of the more famed Horsemen of the Apocalypse, not to mention all the available options of things to do in the game. The only thing I can say from here is to get on your horse and ride as Death with Darksiders II. Until next time (or the apocalypse), stay tuned gamers!
The Payne Strikes Again!
I’ve always wanted to say this, I don’t care if it sounds cheesy but, “Payne has a new name.” Ok, now that that’s out of the way, we’re here to tell you gamers about Max Payne 3. One of Rockstar’s famed third-person shooters has come back now for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC.
In Max Payne 3, Max has left New York after the events of the first two games and has now taken up residence in Sao Paulo, Brazil. His income comes from working in a private security sector for a wealthy local family. Max is called into action with his guns when a street gang kidnaps Rodrigo Branco’s wife, pitting him in a place where gang wars are common and going into the underground once again.
Returning to this installment of Max Payne is the famed favorite “Bullet Time” which, well if you’ve seen The Matrix, you get the idea of how that works. A new feature though is the “Last Stand” mechanic which gives the player a sort of “grace period” after losing all health, and gives them a chance to kill their enemy and regain that “second win.” Another new feature, (which to be honest, not sure how it’s going to work, but just about every fucking game incorporates it now) is a multiplayer feature where players will be able to be a part of a street gang in a team deathmatch type of set up, and even sort of nifty too is to be able to use the Bullet Time online.
So, in the end of it all it really does look like Payne has a new face (also because he shaves his head before returning to real action). Go out there and pick up your copy of Max Payne 3 and show Payne what pain is (damn I love these puns). Stay tuned gamers!
